Sounds of morning

June 1st, 2007, 9:31 am by Michelle Reese

What does your house sound like in the morning? I’m curious. Let me share the noises were heard around the Reese Family this a.m.Early: Not a sound is heard, but I stir and in silence do my stretchesThe pouring of water into the coffee maker, followed by the clanging of dishes being put away. The frig being opened as lunches are prepared and put away, followed by the loading of the dishwasher and the laundry machine. Random toys/items put away from the cluttered kitchen counter bang and clang. The shower starts upstairs, but for some reason the munchkins are still silent.Spoke too soon, little pitter patter of feet are coming down the stairs. It’s my son. "Mom, crackers." I rummage for crackers and quickly run up for my own shower. I hear my daughter cry as I dry off.The next 20 minutes are the sounds of daddy saying good-bye, children arguing over what to watch (we negotiated for Boo Bah) and the sizzling of bacon and bubbling of eggs on the stove. Silence is heard as they eat (and request more eggs). As soon as the t.v. show is done, I remind them to get dressed. My daughter and I go upstairs to grab her clothes and get distracted by the train table. My son joins us. Then they chase each other over a toy dinosaur. Finally (still not dressed), my daughter goes down stairs. I remind her it’s time to get dressed (she cries as she crawls out from under the dining room table). This is followed by "Where are your shoes? Where are your shoes?" heard several times as I try to shuttle them into the car. My daughter wants to wear her brother’s Thomas the Train shirt (fine) and nothing else (When I round up the keys and say, "Time to get in the car" and she agrees to underware and shorts). This is followed by "Get your backpack" and I remembered to put the clothes in the dryer. At last, the opening of the car door, the locking of the house door, the buckling of seatbelts and a big sigh from me. Thankfully my daughter then says, "I want to go to daycare."

Music through the ages

June 1st, 2007, 8:22 am by Katie Mozurkewich

My cousin has two boys, 11 & 8, both of whom are very musically inclined. She sent me this story yesterday.

Just had to share this with those who grew up around 80’s music.

My oldest son Garret is learning the guitar chords to “Sadie Hawkins Dance” by Relient K which, he informed me, happen to be the same chords for lots of songs. So, he’s playing these chords and singing “Just What I Needed” by The Cars.

I’m thinking how cool it is that MY music is hip. His younger brother Greyson then tries to repeat the chords on the piano.

Garret asked Greyson, “What are you doing?”

And Greyson replied, “I’m trying to play the chords from the Circuit City song.”

I’m getting old.
