I’ve had a “my life will never be the same” moment at our house. My nearly 3-year-old daughter can now, officially, without problem, crawl out of her crib. So this morning, and the last five mornings, I’ve woken up with one child on one side of me, one on the other, and my 20-pound pug nestled between us all. Oh, and yes, my husband has a place, also.
Talk about a family bed!
It started Friday night/Saturday morning. I woke up around 4 a.m. and sensed … something. I sat up and at the foot of my bed was my daughter. Yikes. She crawled up on the bed, snuggled next to me and fell back asleep.
I lay anticipating, anxious, waiting for her to cry out.
It never came.
It only actually happened once in the last few nights since she reached this milestone – and then it was in the hotel up north.
So while I’ve dreaded this moment for months, I’m happy to say it hasn’t been as bad as I thought.
You see, both my kids either scream out in their sleep, talk or walk. My son does the latter two of the three and my daughter does the first two. Luckily, I’ve not had to deal with it much because she’s been in her crib, where she just settles herself back down to sleep.
If I was awake enough at night, I would place them both back in their beds. And hopefully, once it’s not so chilly, I’ll be able to do that.
But for now, we’ll likely have a few months of a very full family bed. Not a bad way to wake in the morning.
And on the upside, I’ll likely not have a huge bill to heat the house at night. We just keep each other warm.
