I over reacted.
On my last posting, I was sad I could not help my son on a lesson about counting out money and making a decision on a purchase. But I have realized my reaction was probably more than his. When I left him at school, he was crying and upset. When I got to work, I could not stop thinking about it for hours.
After I left him I contacted the school just to see how he was doing. “He’s forgotten all about it,” I was told.
I had already made plans with his grandmother to let him make the purchase later in the day. And he did. Very happily he handed over his Valentine’s and Christmas money and purchased the book.
I was out of town the rest of the weekend on a getaway with my husband. During that time, grandma read the book every night.
Though I’m happy with the outcome and his excitement about reading the book, I realize I probably could have just left the incident alone and he wouldn’t have even noticed.
Lesson learned (one of many I’m sure as a parent!).
