My house is quiet at night. I’m sleeping without interruption. And my mornings? I got two loads of laundry done before coming to work today.
I’m kidless for a week. My son and daughter are in a much cooler part of Arizona with grandparents. And they’re loving it. Our daily calls are filled with stories of making soap, painting rocks, hiking and “adventures” outdoors.
And that information is from my mom. The kids barely have enough time to say “Hi” or they’re just about to collapse at 8 p.m. from their busy days. Considering they’ve been going to bed near 9 p.m. or 9:30 at home, I think that says a lot.
I’m so grateful they’ve had the chance to do this! My husband and I are trying to finish the house remodel project downstairs (though a broken car has taken more of our time than we had hoped). I’m making some dents in my endless to-do list. I don’t know that it will get done before they come home, but anything is better than nothing. And with little ones not under foot, I’ve also weeded through some of their toys and clothes. I don’t think they’ll miss a thing.
And, the kids are making some incredible memories and having a chance to just be kids – something I’m sure they lack in our busy, overscheduled lives with two parents working.
